NoxLAN 6⅔ – Halloween Spesh

Ooohhhh! It’s almost Halloween, so join us for some spoopy online video games, and some not so spoopy ones on the…

31st of October!

First up is the FREE multiplayer shooter SCP Secret Laboratory, based on the SCP Wiki (a collection of 1000s of short science fiction stories). This game is like no other game I’ve played! It’s an assymmetric, 4 team, multi-class, survival, social, objective-based, wave-respawn, shooter. That’s a lot of keywords!

There are four main teams, each with their own objectives to fulfill:

  • Foundation – Scientists (try to escape the facility), Guards and MTF (help scientists escape, subdue D-Class, kill SCPs and Chaos)
  • SCPs – Monsters (kill Foundation and D-Class)
  • D-Class (try to escape the facility)
  • Chaos Insurgency (aid D-Class in escaping with high value SCP items)

You will die a LOT in this game, but respawns are only a few minutes away as you will respawn as either an MTF agent (basically the Foundation’s Special Forces) or a Chaos Insurgent.

I hope to get enough of us to get a private server! Even though playing with pubs can be a lot of fun, it would be cool to just have our group playing. Give it a whirl, and tag yourself with @scp-secret-laboratory and @shooter in the #subscriptions channel on Discord to let others know that you’re interested in playing.

Memes and spoops abound in SCP Secret Laboratory

Next up is the sleeper hit Among Us, a Mafia but in space game where you run around a ship doing tasks and responding to emergencies, but people are being picked off one by one by the Impostor…

This is also available on iOS and Android for free (with a few ads), and you can cross-play with those who have it on Steam.

Lastly is the Build-Your-Own aerial shooter DRONE The Game, customise your fighter and then face off in custom-built arenas! This is still in early access but looks promising, plus it’s currently 84% off for a little while so get it while it’s cheap (only £3.80)!

Space Engineers meets Unreal Tournament

The first 5 people to book will get a copy of DRONE The Game for FREE*!

* as long as the sale is still on, I’m not made of money 😅

NoxLAN 5B – LAN From Home

Just under a week to go until the first LFH (LAN From Home) event! In this time of social distancing it’s important we keep our morale up, and some social gaming is a great way to get at least a small measure of friendly but competitive contact!

Get up close and personal with internet gaming

Join the discussions on Discord about the games you would like to play and we’ll see about making a timetable to get ourselves organised.

NoxLAN 5B – Cancelled

Following the Government’s announcement to avoid all non-essential travel, regretfully we will be cancelling the next NoxLAN.

<sad noises>

So that we’re not completely without games in our shared time of social isolation, join our Discord where we will be playing over the intertubes and keeping each others’ spirits up!

git gud nub

Everyone who has booked and paid will receive a full refund. This has to be done manually so it might take a bit of time.

Stay safe and well everyone!

NoxLAN 5B – One month to go!

Zounds! There’s only a month to go until the next NoxLAN! Thank you to everyone who has booked so far, and if you haven’t booked yet there’s still a few spaces for you!

Humorous gif of a man attempting to get into a locked gate.
This could be you if you’re not careful

If you haven’t checked the timetable out yet, there’s been a bit of a site redesign hopefully making all the event information a lot easier to find. Check it out now!

Novel coronavirus COVID-19

This outbreak may have an impact on the LAN, dependent upon Government advice.

Here are the main points to keep in mind:

NoxLAN 5b – 50% capacity

Awesome news! We’re at half capacity already and we’ve still got 2 months and a bit to go! Woop! Thank you to all those who have booked early. Remember to pester your friends and loved ones to sign up, let’s fill this LAN to capacity!

In the meantime, take a look at the timetable, and familiarise yourself with the FAQs. One of the games we’re looking to try is Blackwake, a multiplayer naval FPS focused on teamwork and cooperation. It was on sale for £1.49 not long ago, so hopefully there should be another sale before the LAN. Keep your eyes peeled and your Steam wallet primed.

NoxLAN 5b – Get yer worms!

There’s only 3 days to go until Early-Bird tickets are no longer available! Book now to avoid booking later!

If you’re wondering why the cost has increased, we want to invest in some new equipment to improve the internet capability of the venue. Hopefully this will allow for a more streamlined gaming experience.

Depending on numbers, there may also be some left over for some coolbean prizes. Oooh. Aaaah. [Appreciative noises]

So don’t delay!
Book today!

NoxLAN IV – Festivities are over, for now…

Thanks to everyone who came to NoxLAN IV! I hope everyone had fun and a good laugh. Keep your eyes peeled for the next LAN, and read on for the games played, tournament results and the prizes.

For those who didn’t come this time (I’m keeping my eye on you) here’s a few games you missed out on:

  • Zandronum / Doom
  • OpenRA
  • OpenTTD
  • 5(!) VR headsets with a variety of games such as:
    • Beat Saber (by far the favourite of the bunch)
    • Superhot VR
    • Blade and Sorcery
    • Elven Assassin
    • Pavlov VR
    • Dirt Rally VR
    • Project Cars
  • Counterstrike Source (Prophunt, Gungame, and standard Search & Destroy)
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Insurgency

Let’s get down to brass tacks and see who proved themselves slightly more capable than the rest for winning the vaunted and much venerated NoxLAN tournaments! Unfortunately no one had any screen recording software, so static pictures will have to suffice.

First up is the Nidhogg tournament, with some extremely tense matches lasting almost 8 minutes! End to end action throughout especially from Jibbernuts, Chris173972, Milaneous, JayneyBoBaney, and Tigrid. The ultimate winner though was Tigrid, after seeing off all comers.

JaneyBobBaney vs the SultanOfSwing

The next tournament was 2v2 Rocket League, everyone was randomly drawn pairs and then set about attempting to drive cars at an oversized football and each other. The winning pair after a simple round-robin tournament was JaneyBoBaney and Tigrid, with 4 wins out of 4.

Rocket League pros in the making

The last tournament was Trackmania Nations, which I made the mistake of winning. Haha you all suck 😂. It was very close though, with only 0.27 seconds separating 1st and 3rd place.

  1. Nox
  2. tipro9
  3. Chris173972

For this occasion, tipro9 will be eligible for a prize.

(Note to self, do not attempt to win tournaments.)

Sorry for winning my own tournament…

Lastly, the multistage quiz split into three sections of Guess the game, General knowledge and Game music identification, was also close with a possible maximum score of 64 points. Team Tom feat. Chris stole the win after the double points round of Game music leapfrogged them over Team Daves and Team JARS.

Prizes are courtesy of, AlexFili, and my Humble Bundle addiction, and can be selected from the website prize pool. In case winners choose the same prize, give your second and third choices, or discuss in the Discord channel.

If you have won multiple competitions, please don’t be greedy! 😜

Until next time…

Stay tuned for additional news such as a possible new venue, new attractions and better tournaments and prizes based on demand. In the meantime, tell your friends, colleagues and mortal-enemies and lets make the next LAN even better!

If you have pictures/videos/captures of the event and the games, please send them to me so I can get them uploaded into a single album. 🤩

Bye for now. 👍
